GUWAHATI: Campaigning for the second phase of Assam assembly polls scheduled to take place on April 1 ended on Tuesday evening.
A total of 39 assembly constituencies would go to the second phase poll on Thursday. Some 345 candidates were in the fray in the second phase, including 26 women.
The total number of eligible voters in this phase was 73, 44,631, of which 37, 34,537 were male and 36, 09,959 were female, while 135 third gender voters were also enrolled in this phase.
Voting would take place in a total 10, 592 polling stations in the second phase of polls. At least 310 companies of security personnel were deployed for the upcoming phase too.
The last day of the campaigning for the second phase witnessed massive rallies by BJP national president J P Nadda, union minister Smriti Irani, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Though Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also slated to attend three public functions on Tuesday, his rallies were canceled as he could not fly to Assam due to bad weather. Gandhi was expected to reach Assam on Friday to address few more rallies.
Polling for the next two phases will be held on April 1 and April 6. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
