Guwahati: Money laundering cases, recovery of arms and many other illegal activities go on their peak especially during election campaigns in poll-bound states.
Amid the ongoing election campaigns in Assam, a huge amount of cash worth more than Rs 10 lakhs has been seized by Tinsukia Police on Wednesday.
One Raj Kumar Gupta of Sadia claimed that he was carrying cash amount for some business-related purposes in Tinsukia.
The police team confiscated the cash amount from a four-wheeler car bearing registration number AS 23V 1831.
Speaking to the media, Raj Kumar Gupta claimed that he was carrying the cash amount for some business-related activity in Tinsukia and an investigation has been carried out in this regard by the magistrate of Tinsukia.
It may also be mentioned that recently, a Static Surveillance Team (SST) under Helem PS in Gohpur LAC had recovered around Rs 31,32,400 from three persons in an Alto bearing registration number no AS-07L/1891 coming from Dhalpur to Nagaon on March 2, 2021.
Recovery of Pen Gun along with 10 rounds of .22 rimfire ammunition in Cachar
In a joint operation on Wednesday, Cachar Police and Assam Rifles apprehended Namugang Kabui (56) from Pailapool area and seized 1 Pen Gun along with 10 rounds of .22 rimfire ammunition from his possession. Investigation in this regard is currently underway.
Man held with Chinese grenade in Diphu
A man identified as Biju Sutradhar was arrested with a Chinese grenade in Diphu. The grenade was allegedly collected from the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) with an intention of inflicting a chaotic situation in the town ahead the elections.
Two pistols and 13 live ammunition seized in Morigaon
Two persons were arrested in a bus from Dimapur to Mairabari. Police also seized two pistols and 13 live ammunition from their possession. Both the driver and handyman of the traveling bus were also taken into custody.
