Assam Polls: CCTV not working, Wall found broken at city Strong Room?
GUWAHATI: The security of a strong room located at the Maniram Dewan trade centre in the city was questioned on Saturday when the CCTV cameras installed to monitor the strong room were found to be not functioning.
Moreover, a temporary wall installed before the strong room was also found to be partially damaged.
Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) vice president and a candidate from Guwahati (East) constituency Adip Kumar Phukan informed media that they have found that few CCTV cameras installed at the site were dysfunctional as well as the temporary wall was broken.
“A CCTV camera was not working from Friday midnight till Saturday 8 AM. It’s repaired only after we complained about it. Moreover, a temporary wall of plywood installed at the entrance of the strong room was found to be broken from one side. It was broken in such a way that anyone can enter through the gap,” Phukan alleged.
AJP members also alleged that a CCTV installed just in front of the entrance of the broken wall was removed ‘surprisingly’.
“Unlike other strong rooms where CCTVs were installed even inside the strong room so that the security personnel can also keep a tab on the activities inside the strong room, the Maniram Dewan trade centre strong room has no such facilities. Moreover, CCTVs installed at the entrance were removed. It’s highly suspicious,” he added.
There were also allegations that recently an unknown person without any security clearance was found inside the campus of the trade centre.
Phukan said, “The Election Commission of India must ensure full transparency and security of the strong rooms or the people will lose their trust in the results.”
The results of the elections will be announced on May 2.
