GUWAHATI: Assam Congress has collected over one lakh Gamosas through its door-to-door collection drive so far. The party had earlier announced to collect at least 50 lakh Gamosas with anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) message to be kept at a proposed martyr’s memorial the party promised to build if the party comes to power in Assam.
The party leaders have also started a twitter campaign titled- #MyAntiCAAGamosa
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora iterated, “Our hope for a united and prosperous future for Assam is alive and thriving, as people have truly risen up to fight back divisive forces! Amazed that over a period of few days, we have already collected over one lakh Gamosas bearing anti-CAA messages! #MyAntiCAAGamosa”
MP and party’s manifesto committee chairman Gaurav Gogoi took to Twitter and stated, “One lakh gamosas within days is a testimony of the extraordinary response from across the State to @INCAssam’s#MyAntiCAAGamosa collection drive! Grateful to people for coming all out in support of our endeavours to ensure CAA is out for good in Assam.”
The official Twitter handle of Assam Bachao, a campaign launched by Assam Congress seeking public responses over various issues of the state, also marked the people’s dissent on social media through a Tweet, “Accumulation of over one lakh Gamosas bearing anti-CAA messages for #MyAntiCAAGamosacampaign proves that people have united to push out oppressive forces! Cannot wait to have more Gamosas sent our way so that together we can bring in a new future free of tyranny & despotism!”
Congress said that it would be able to complete its target of collecting 50 lakh Gamosas within a few more days.
