Assam Polls: Congress Releases Anti-CAA Video; Goes Viral
GUWAHATI: In a bid to take its anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) stand to a larger audience in the state, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Monday has come up with an audiovisual advertisement.
Inspired by Assam’s age-old art form of ‘Bhaowna’, a Vaishnavite spiritual drama popularized in Assam by Srimanta Sankardeva, the video highlighted the common people’s anti CAA sentiments.
In the video advertisement, a song, which followed the traditional tune of ‘Bhaona’, tried to describe the fear of the common people who according to Congress were in apprehension of losing their cultural identity due to CAA. The song visually iterated that Congress will defeat all evil and communal forces.
“Released and aired across platforms, the video in the first few hours of the release, managed to get over one million views,” said Bobbeeta Sharma, chairperson, media department, APCC. In Assam, ‘Bhaona’ is staged on cultural occasions, with religious pomp and gaiety.
She added that in the advertisement video, a pertinent question was being raised to shed light on the draconian duo of the CAA-National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Sharing the video on his tweeter handle, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa’s couplets have come alive! Let drums roll, conches blow
Let mridangas & khols echo, Assam marches again along the path of growth…
Say ” Glory to Mother Assam”, No CAA- only unity & peace!”
