    Assam Polls: Model Code of Conduct strictly enforced in state

    Rs 2.72 crore and liquor worth Rs 1.11 crore were confiscated in last 9 days

    Guwahati: Ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in poll-bound Assam, the state police, flying squads and static surveillance teams (SST) across the state are presently keeping a close vigil against any suspicious movement of cash, valuables, liquor, contraband etc.

    This is done to check any attempt at the violation of the Model Code of Conduct enforced presently for the conduct of free and fair polls.

    Notably, during the last nine days and upto 9 am of March 6 cash amounting to Rs 2.72 crore and liquor worth Rs 1.11 crore were confiscated from various places of Assam.

    Furthermore, till February 6 morning at least 23 complaints regarding violation of Model Code of Conduct received from several districts of poll bound Assam.

    The state polls are slated for March 27, April 1 and April 6.
