Assam Polls: Rajya Sabha MP hints controversy in vote-counting process similar to Bihar election
Guwahati: Ahead of the vote-counting process for Assam’s general assembly elections on May 2, Anchalik Gana Morcha president and Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner hinted that a controversy has been created by some section with a bias towards the ruling party in the state to harm the counting process similar to Bihar Assembly elections in the year 2020.
MP Bhuyan in the letter also appealed to the CEC to make the counting process fair and transparent by taking all necessary and possible steps.
“The counting process has come under scanner during last few years due to attempt by the ruling party to manipulate the result through mischief during the counting process. This has cast doubts on the impartiality in the counting process,” wrote MP Bhuyan in his letter.
Expressing his concern over the matter, MP Bhuyan urged the CEC to do videography of the entire counting process without compromising the secrecy of voting.
“Without commenting on the merit of the questions raised during Bihar Election, 2020 we urged the commission to ensure that no controversy like that of Bihar is created in Assam during counting,” Bhuyan added.
