Assam Polls: Video of BJP MLA Rama Kanta Dewri Distributing Money Went Viral; ECI Moved

GUWAHATI: The regional party of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) complained the Election Commission of India (ECI) against BJP sitting MLA and candidate from Marigaon constituency Rama Kanta Dewri for allegedly distributing money to some women voters recently.

The AJP move came after a video showing Dewri distributing money went viral since Tuesday. In the video, Dewri was spotted distributing money to a group of women.

    WATCH VIDEO:

AJP in a statement said, “Public wants their representatives to be honest. But the BJP MLA was seen to woo voters by distributing money. While the ECI has already set the norms for a free and fair election, Dewri’s action was a mockery to the system. AJP demands strict action against him.”

Marigaon assembly constituency in Morigaon district of Assam would go to the polls on Thursday.

In the 2016 Assembly elections Rama Kanta Dewri of BJP won from this seat beating Jonjonali Baruah of Congress by a margin of 29,623 votes.
