    Assam Polls: Violence broke out at Sonai poll centre; Police resort to firing

    At least three persons were reportedly received serious injuries in the incident

    Guwahati: Cachar Police reportedly resorted to firing to disperse a mob when a scuffle broke between two groups of people at a voting centre under Sonai constituency in Cachar district on Thursday.

    At least three persons were reportedly received serious injuries in the incident.

    Sources said that the incident occurred at a voting centre located at Madhya Dhani LP School when BJP candidate from the constituency Aminul Haque Laskar allegedly manhandled a person. The politician has charged him with conducting some malpractice inside the centre.

    The incident turned violent when fumed over the BJP leader’s action, locals gheraoed him and damaged his vehicle.

    Police immediately swung into action to rescue MLA Laskar from the spot.
