Continuing his domination in boxing, the Asian Games gold Medallist from Assam, Shiva Thapa on October 31st, 2019, clinched gold under 63 kg category at the Olympic Test Event in Tokyo.
Thapa defeated Kazakhstan’s national champion and Asian bronze-winner Sanatali Toltayev 5-0 to claim the top honours.
In October 2019, Thapa won gold under 63 kg category in the 4th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championships held at the Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology.
Thapa participated in the 2012 London Olympics and was the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics. He is the third Indian to clinch Gold at the Asian Games. Shiva is also the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
On the other hand, Pooja Rani (75kg) of Haryana also clinched a gold medal at the Olympic Test Event for Boxing while Ashish (69kg) bagged silver. Rani defeated Australia’s Caitlin Parker in the event.
