Guwahati: A joint operation by Karimganj Police and Border Security Force (BSF) has broken all records of large-scale seizure of Yaba tablets in Assam.
Around 2.59 lakh YABA tablets worth Rs 12.96 Cr were seized from East Balia village in the Neelambazar police station area of Karimganj district.
A person named Shamchunnur has been arrested in connection with the incident.
After getting information about the presence of tablets, the Border Security Force cordoned off a house in the area and before the operation.
However, taking the opportunity of the darkness, two persons inside the house managed to escape from the spot.
Initially, 8,710 YABA tablets were exhumed from the backyard of Shamchunnur’s residence.
Later, another 24,560 YABA tablets were recovered from the backyard of one Abdul Basit’s residence.
Taking to Twitter, BSF in their official Twitter handle said, “Based on specific BSF int regarding presence drugs in Purba Balia, Neelam Bazar, Karimganj, @BSF_MizoramCach along with @assampolice executed a Joint Op & recovered 2.59 lakh YABA tablets worth INR 12.96 Cr.”
In another joint operation, the BSF along with Karimganj police intercepted and nabbed three Indian Nationals and recovered suspected heroin worth Rs 4.235 Cr in-depth areas of Nivia market on Cheragi-Ratabari Road in Assam.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter saying, “In another joint operation of @BSF_India and Ratabari PS team, 46 soap cases of suspected Heroin (605 grams) were recovered from the possession of 03 persons travelling in a car in the Nivia Bazaar area.”
