    Assam Rifles apprehend Three, recovers arms, liquor in Nagaland

    Earlier, AR along with the Nagaland Police had busted a major extortion racket operated by the NSCN-IM in Dimapur and arrested its treasurer

    Guwahati: Continuing its counter-insurgency operation against the militant groups in Nagaland, troops of Assam Rifles (AR) in a joint operation along with the Nagaland Police apprehended three persons and recovered illegal arms, ammunition and contraband liquor in Dimapur on Monday.

    Sources in the Eastern Command of Indian Army said, “NEOps troops of Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Nagaland Police apprehended three persons and recovered illegal arms, ammunition and contraband liquor from 4th Mile, Dimapur.”

    Earlier, in a major breakthrough in the NSCN (IM) extortion case, the AR along with the Nagaland Police had busted a major extortion racket operated by the NSCN-IM in Dimapur and arrested the treasurer in self-styled Prime Minister’s Office of National Social Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) Rayilung Nsarngbe and his two associates on July 5.

    The investigation of the case has now been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after the arrest of a pastor who revealed that government funds were diverted to militant activities.
