Assam Rifles convoy ambushed by militants near Myanmar border

Imphal/Guwahati, December 2: A fierce gun battle broke out at Kongkan village in Kamjong district in the wee hours on Sunday between Assam Rifles troopers and militants.

It was around 3:30 am when the 31 Assam Rifles convoy was ambushed at Kongkan village near Myanmar border. According to a senior police official, the militants are suspected to be members of Revolutionary Peoples’ Front (RPF).

“The jawans retaliated and a gun battle ensued between the two sides. The militants, however, escaped taking advantage of the darkness and rugged terrains. No casualty was reported during the gunfight which lasted for a few minutes,” the officer said.

According to reports, additional forces comprising of Army officials, AR troopers and state police officers had rushed to the site to nab the militants.
