Guwahati: In yet another crusade against illegal smuggling activities, Assam Rifles in Mizoram recovered foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 67.60 lakh at Hnahlan in Champhai district.
The seizure was made during an operation by the Aizawl Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) based on specific information.
During the operation, the Assam Rifles troops belonging to the Aizawl Battalion recovered 52 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes, the HQ IGAR (East) said in a statement.
The approximate cost of the recovered foreign-origin cigarette is Rs 67,60,000, HQ IGAR (East) informed.
The Customs department in Champhai seized the contraband items on Tuesday for further legal proceedings.
