Guwahati: The sudden kidnapping of two Assamese youths by a group of suspected Naga rebels triggered a sensation in the Assam-Nagaland border in the Kanuwari Balijan area under Charaideo district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the duo identified as Pranjal Basa and Nabajit Lahon was kidnapped by the rebels in daylight from Lakhan Basti of Nagaland while they were exchanging cash in a shop.

Notably, a few days earlier, the troops of the Assam Rifles apprehended three hardcore NSCN cadres, following which the militant organization picked up the duo, suspecting them to be the Assam Rifles informers.

Speaking to TIME8, the duo alleged that were badly beaten up by the group and also threatened them with dire consequences if they don’t reveal the truth behind the arrest of the three NSCN cadres.

“They made us kneel down and threatened us at the gunpoint; they enquired about the arrests of the NSCN rebels. Later, they hit me on the head, chest and legs. I even failed to attend my college examination today,” said Pranjal Basa to TIME8.

Also, speaking about the incident, Nabajit Lahon said, “At around 9 am, a gang of four people tried to kidnap my friend, I went to his rescue, but, they caught me and took both of us towards the hillside. Later, four more rebels joined the gang.”

Acting on a tip-off, the troops of the Assam rifles rescued the duo from the forest area.
