Assam: NFR recovers foreign made cigarettes worth Rs 1.76 L
Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully recovered foreign made cigarettes of worth Rs 1.76 lakh on Thursday.
The contraband item was seized from Rajdhani Express, when the officials were performing train escort duty. During checking they detected 2 boxes kept at the corridor of a coach and were unclaimed while the train was running between Dimapur and Lumding stations.
The unclaimed boxes were de-trained at Lumding station and brought to RPF/Lumding. On checking the boxes, 4,400 packets of foreign made cigarettes having mark of “ESSE LIGHTS” containing 20 cigarettes in each packet were found.
In another incident, a special team of RPF and Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) conducted a raid at the PRS counter of Barpeta road station and arrested one tout on 14 February.
The accused was identified as Najarul Islam (27) and the special team seized two live PRS tickets valued Rs 760, one OPPO mobile handset, four number of filled requisition forms and one voter identity card.
A case was registered against Islam and investigation is underway.
