Assam: Section 144 imposed in West Guwahati

Guwahati: The office of the Deputy Commissioner has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrCP) in West Police district of Guwahati with effect from November 7.

The order issued by DC office has prohibited the assembly of more than five persons in Bharalumukh, Fatasil, Ambari, Gorchuk, Jalukbari and Azara Police Station without prior permission from competent authorities.

According to a press release, it is reckoned that some groups of persons or organisation are likely to carry out agitation/demonstration or shouting of slogans in the area which may cause breach of peace and public order, causing disturbance of peaceful movement of public, traffic and also normal functioning offices.

Further, the notification stated that no landlord and owners of property shall rent or sub-rent any accommodation to any person without furnishing details of the tenant to the concerned police station. Persons dealing in property business are also to abide by the order.

The order has been issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Nabaneet Mahanta.
