    Assam SI Exam Scam: 2 more arrested; remanded 2 days police custody

    The two accused has been identified as Amarjit Lahkar, a resident of Guwahati and Dipjyoti Saloi, resident of Bongaigaon, who were arrested on Tuesday.

    As the case of Assam Police recruitment scam unfolds, two more arrest has been made by the Criminal Investigation Department of Assam on Tuesday evening..

    The two accused has been identified as Amarjit Lahkar, a resident of Guwahati and Dipjyoti Saloi, resident of Bongaigaon.

    Saloi was bodyguard to accused SP Kumar Sanjit Krishna and Lahkar was his accomplice.

    Reportedly, Amarjyoti Lahkar hoarded an amount of Rs 40 lakh which Krishna had taken for the question paper leak.  On the other hand, Saloi was involved in handing over the money to Lakhkar at his residence.

    Both the accused were produced in a special court on Tuesday where the Court remanded them for two days police custody.

    SP Kumar Sanjit Krishna was arrested on October 16 last year and his bail was rejected on November 2 5.

    The recruitment exam for 597 positions at the sub-inspector level in the Assam police – for which over 66,000 candidates were to appear – was scheduled for September 20, 2020, but had to be cancelled following preliminary reports that the question paper had been leaked and circulated via WhatsApp.

    So far, CID has been able to recover Rs 18 lakhs out of Rs 40 lakhs. And out of all the accused, alteast eight have been granted bail to date.
