Guwahati: Singer Nilotpal Bora on Tuesday received massive criticism from netizens for allegedly comparing the 100-feet tall Chaolung Siu Ka Pha statue with a pre-historic creature.
Nilotpal in his Facebook post had allegedly compared the statue and wrote “Meet this dinosaur”, following which he received widespread criticism from netizens.
The post was later deleted by the singer, he claimed in a video.
He further claimed that he had no intension to hurt the sentiment of the people of Assam or dishonor the legendary Ahom king in any way.
In the video, Nilotpal Bora clarifying his stand on the matter said, “Being an artist, it is extremely disheartening to see such kind of artwork. I as an Assamese feel sad to see a statue of a legendary figure in such a disgraceful form. I had no intention to hurt the sentiment of any people of Assam or disrespect the great Ahom king Chaolung Siu Ka Pha. The statue doesn’t resemble the king or person in any way. It is an injustice to such a huge legend of Assam. My point was such form artwork should be completed by deserving artists or sculptors.”
Nilotpal further urged for reformation of the sculptures of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi and legendary singer, composer, filmmaker and Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika in the video.
Notably, the 100-feet long statue of Chaolung Siu Ka Pha was unveiled in Nazira, Sivasagar district, Assam on last Friday by Assam Health, Finance and Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
