Assam: Students of B Pharma stage day-night protest

The students took to the streets after varsity’s decision to conduct examination even after its earlier notice to promote the students.

Guwahati: The Students of B Pharma protest from four pharmaceutical colleges of Guwahati, all affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) held a day-night protest on Friday.

The students of 3rd, 4th and 7th semester of Nemcare institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Girijananda Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pratiksha Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Rahman Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences staged protest infront of the main gate of ASTU.

The students took to the streets after university’s decision to conduct examination even after its earlier notice to promote the students to the next semester without holding an examination due to the pandemic situation.

The students went to meet the ASTU management and have been kept waiting for the authorities since 11 am on Friday.

According to one of the student, the Vice Chancellor Indranil Chanda came to meet at around 10 at night.

Speaking to TIME8, a student said, “Although they had signed the memorandum issued by us, no confirmation has been given by them regarding their decision till now. Instead they had called the police and warned us of strict action to be taken if we continue our protest.” The Students of B Pharma protest Day and Night.

The third, fifth and seventh-semester students have been constantly complaining that while they were earlier promoted to the next semester without any examinations due to Coronavirus pandemic situation, the university (ASTU) has later issued a notification that the examination will be held in the month of December.

“We have been protesting since yesterday morning till midnight and we shall continue it today, until the authorities accept our demands” another protesting student said.
