Guwahati: Ahom General Lachit Borphukan of Assam and the historic Kamakhya temple will be displayed in this year’s Assam tableau for the Republic Day celebration.

The tableau will showcase the bravery of Ahom commander in the Battle of Saraighat of 1671 and the significance of the world-famous Kamakhya temple.

The temple theme will also display the divine powers of womanhood as the ‘Nari Shakti’ theme has been chosen as one of the prime subjects for this year’s Republic day celebration parade.

The ceremonial procession will feature at least 23 tableaux—17 from states and union territories, and six from other ministries and departments displaying India’s rich cultural history, economic development, and social advancement.
