    Assam tea to be showcased in the state’s tableau in Republic Day parade

    The design would reflect Assam’s age-old tea garden life and the culture of the tea garden workers and the Adivasi community of the state

    GUWAHATI: The Defence Ministry has cleared the theme ‘Assam tea- the backbone of India’s economy’ for the Assam tableau for the upcoming Republic Day parade in Delhi on January 26.

    Preetom Saikia, commissioner and secretary of state’s cultural affairs department said that the design would finalize on January 9. It would be designed by a firm named Image Creations, he informed.

    The design would reflect Assam’s age-old tea garden life and the culture of the tea garden workers and the Adivasi community of the state.

    An expert committee supervising the preparation would review the model on Monday and suggested some modifications.

    Last year, Assam’s Republic Day tableau has been adjudged best among the tableaus from 16 states and Union Territories. The tableau of Assam was based on the theme ‘Land of Unique Craftsmanship and Culture’ had taken the limelight by winning its debut Republic Day award.
