The Tea Board has initiated a separate electronic auction platform with associated services like central warehousing and logistics at Jorhat for development of an innovative e-marketplace in Assam.
As per the deputy chairman of Tea Board A K Ray, the proposed e-marketplace will be developed by India’s leading B2B e-commerce company, mjunction services expected to bring on board the turnaround time and cost-effectiveness.
The Tea Board has also decided to allow exports of tea waste which was not permitted till now which will reduce the sale of poor tea quality in the market. It is reported that the Tea Board have also consulted IIM, Bangalore, for some policy reforms in case of e-auctioning.
It may be mentioned that mjunction will be responsible to design, develop, implement and maintain the e-auction platform and is aimed at aiding fair and market-driven price discovery.
The e-marketplace model is expected to bring on board secondary and tertiary buyers giving them access to fresh tea and faster movement of materials thus helping in its export. The new system aims to handle up to 200 million kg of tea per year.
