Guwahati: At least three accused suspects were injured in police fire after they allegedly attempted to snatch a service weapon and flee from custody in Assam’s Kokrajhar and Lakhimpur districts, said official on Friday.
According to sources, the first incident occurred on Thursday night near Banderdewa town in Lakhimpur district, when two drug peddlers were apprehended by police and were escorting a team of personnel to recover a narcotics consignment.
Probably, police fired accused when they tried to escape from custody and seized quantity of heroin and two vehicles, official added.
In another incident, a man was apprehended near Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district while smuggling a significant amount of cannabis.
When he was being escorted to arrest his accomplices, the individual attempted to snatch a police personnel’s pistol and flee, sources said.
However, police warn him to stop but he refused and had no option but to open fire and was injured, sources added.
