    Assam to conduct vaccination for Transgender community, first in entire India

    Around 75 people succumbed to the deadly Covid 19 virus in Assam on Thursday

    Guwahati: Assam is heading to create history as the state government has taken an initiative to vaccinate the Transgender community amid the rising Covid cases in the state.

    With this, Assam becomes the first in entire India to conduct a vaccination drive, particularly for the Transgender community.

    Speaking to the TIME8, Swati Bidhan Baruah, founder of All Assam Transgender Association and Associate Vice Chairperson of Transgender Welfare Board, Govt of Assam, said, “The government with just one request has taken the initiative and we are very thankful for that and at the same time Assam has become the first state in entire India to conduct vaccination particularly for the Transgender Persons.”

    Apparently, the first phase of the vaccination drive for the transgender community shall begin in the Kamrup Metro district on Friday and after that, it will be expanded to other parts of the districts, informed Swati Bidhan Baruah.

    Meanwhile, informing about the Covid 19 update of the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that around 75 people succumbed to the deadly Covid 19 virus in Assam on Thursday.

    The state reported around 5468 new cases with a positivity rate of 9.18%.

    Out of 5468 new cases, Kamrup Metro alone reported 1173 cases, CM Sarma informed.
