Guwahati: Assam to host the junior Under-17 Women’s National Football Championship from June 18 in five venues.

The Assam Football Association (AFA) will be conducting the championship being organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in association with the sports and youth welfare department of the Assam government.

Besides Nehru Stadium, Sarusajai Sports Complex and Sports Authority of India (SAI) ground (all in Guwahati), Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education at Sonapur (outskirts of Guwahati) and Dimakuchi in Udalguri district will host the games.

At least 34 teams including the hosts Assam team will participate in the tournament. The teams have been divided into eight groups.

Assam has been clubbed in group G with Haryana, Puducherry and Gujarat.

Though most of the matches will be played during the day hours, those matches to be held at Dimakuchi will be conducted under floodlights. The matches at Dimakuchi will start on June 21.

Sarusajai will host both the semifinals on July 2 and the final on July 4. The teams and the officials will start to arrive from June 15 onwards.

Currently, a selection camp is being conducted at Dimakuchi to select the Assam team.
