    Assam To Rashtrapati Bhawan: This Girl Embarks On A 2,500 Km Journey To Save Planet Earth

    Assam Minister Parimal Suklabaidya has assured to provide all logistic support on behalf of the Assam government

    With a mission to save the planet and keep the earth green, Upper Assam’s Nizara Phukan of Charaideo district has embarked on a remarkable journey under the aegis of ‘Brikhyabandhu’ NGO.

    Phukan who started the journey from the historic Charaideo Maidam has reached the capital city of Assam. She was felicitated by Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya at his official residence. The Minister assured to provide all logistic support on behalf of the Assam government.

    “My best wishes to Nizara Phukan of Charaideo district, a young, very talented and inspiring youth who has taken the pledge to spread out a positive message of saving the mother earth by means of greenery”, Suklabaidya wrote on his Twitter.

    He informed that as a part of her inspiring endeavour, she is walking a distance of approximately 2,500kms from Charaideo to Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi to meet President Ramnath Kovind and Union Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javedkar. She will also be accompanied by Gauri Shankar Kalita till New Delhi.

    The Assam girl who originally hails from Desangpani village located in Mahmora Tehsil of Sivasagar district is an active socialist working for environmental protection. She will be conducting the awareness campaign on foot under the banner of ‘Brikhyabandhu’ which works towards planting trees to tackle climate change.

    Phukan who completed her M Phil from JNU thinks that although there is an environmental protection act, there should be strict policies enacted by the Centre and that people should abide by the laws. She further bats for a university on the environment in the Northeast region.
