GUWAHATI: Curving the gender stereotypes and discrimination especially to the transgender community in the state, the first transgender film – specific advertisement ‘Aami Tritiyo’ (we are third) was all set to be released on January 1, 2021.
The video has been directed and scripted by Swati Bidhan Baruah, Assam’s prominent transgender rights activist, and also an associate vice-chairperson of the transgender welfare department under the state’s social welfare department.
Baruah told Time8, “It’s a 2:24 minuted long ad-video, a part of mass sensitization on the transgender person which will be released on January 1 on account of New Year and Magh Bihu celebrations. The film was a joint initiative of the northeast voluntary association of rural development (NEVARD) and All Assam Transgender Association. The motive of the video is to break the ongoing gender stereotype prevailing in our society, and with a hope of ending the discrimination menace.”
The video featured at least four transgender persons including Baruah. “There is one trans in the lead role and three others including me. It’s was an awesome experience during the shoot. We succeeded to complete the shoot in a single day.”
The video was shot in Dihina village of Kamrup district.
The video has cast Bonti Kinner in the lead role and Iftikar Ahmed as a male lead along with Arjun Gupta, Deva Kanya Doley, Swati Bidhan Baruah, Jugontora Bihu dance group, Ruby Kinner and Noor Begum (Kinner).
