GUWAHATI: State’s Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the Assam government will start the works of implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 from next week.
“We will start the works of implementation of the NEP from very next week. We will also form a 40-member committee to materialise the NEP, 2020,” Sarma said.
Stating that the state government will come up with a complete blueprint for implementing the NEP till January, the Minister said, “The 40-member committee will discuss the NEP within August 31st.”
Sarma also highlighted that the government of India will spend 6% of the GDP in education sector and hoped that the students’ community will be transformed into resources.
He said that in accordance with the NEP, medium of instruction up to Class V will be in mother tongue.
According to the Minister, education till class XII will be universalised. Science stream will be newly introduced in 16 colleges of the state while 240 posts of lecturers will be created.
Moreover, notification will be issued on August 18 for provicialisation of 355 schools. At the same time, 9 higher secondary schools, 149 junior colleges will be provicialised. The notification will be issued till August 18. However, it will be implemented only on January. 414 posts for teachers will also be regularised. He also added that 3359 teachers’ posts will be provicialised in the secondary education. Another 30 colleges will be provincialised.
