Assam Top Cop Kumar Sanjit Krishna remanded to five day CID custody

Krishna was found to have taken a bribe of Rs. 40 lakh to leak the question paper of the SI recruitment exams in Karimganj, two days before the exam

GUWAHATI: Assam top cop Kumar Sanjit Krishna, key accused in the Assam Police SI exam paper leak case, has been remanded to five days of CID custody on Friday.

A day after his arrest, Krishna was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Friday. Though CID, probing the recruitment scam, sought for weeklong custody, the court granted five days.

Along with Krishna, two other accused-Rubul Hazarika and Saroj Sharma were also sent to CID custody for five more days.

Krishna was found to have taken a bribe of Rs. 40 lakh to leak the question paper of the SI recruitment exams at his official residence in Karimganj, two days before the exam on September 18.

He was the then Superintendent of Police of Karimganj but was later transferred as SP of FRRO, Barpeta recently.

The written exam to select 597 sub-inspectors (SI) to Assam Police was cancelled on September 20 after the question paper was leaked. The exam will now be held on November 22.

Both CID and crime branch who were probing the case have so far nabbed over 50 people in connection with the case including a retired IPS officer PK Dutta and a ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Diban Deka who was later expelled from the party.

Police have also seized around Rs 6 cr rupees, allegedly collected from candidates for posts of sub-inspectors by the accused, after conducting raids at several places in the past few days.
