Guwahati: Two cadres of the banned Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) was killed in Assam’s Kokrajhar district during a gun battle between police and militants on Monday.
The incident happened in the Chakrashila area in the district.
The two deceased cadres have been identified as Abhijit Deka, a resident of Rowta, and Nipun Roy of Bongaigaon.
As per sources, based on specific information about the presence of KLO cadres, the police team launched an operation in the area to catch the suspected cadres.
During the operation, militants started firing on the police and in return, police fired several rounds, in which two cadres were killed. The other suspected cadres managed to flee after the firing, sources stated.
However, one cadre has been trapped by villagers and handed to the police.
However, no police personnel was injured during the firing.
Following the incident, bodies were taken to a government hospital for post-mortem.
A manhunt is underway to nab the fleeing militants.
