Assam: Two minor girls rescued in Hojai district

Guwahati: In two separate incidents, police rescued two minor girls in Hojai district of Assam, police officials informed.

Police received information that a 16-year-old girl was married to a man. Following the input, the district Childline along with police conducted a special operation on Thursday evening and rescued the girl.

However, the man managed to escape and a search operation has been launched to nab him, police said.

In another incident, a girl was brought from Dimapur in Nagaland, officials revealed. She was also rescued in an operation by the Childline and the police.

The man is alleged to have married two more girls. He gave the police a slip and fled. A search is on to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, the two rescued girls were sent to the Hojai Child Welfare Centre after their medical examination.
