Guwahati: Two Ukrainian nationals were apprehended from a train in Assam’s Karimganj district’s Badarpur railway station on Thursday.
The Ukrainian nationals have been identified as Trishchynskyi Volodymyr (39) and Nazari Vozniuk (21).
According to sources, the two were on their way to New Delhi bound a train from Agartala, Tripura without any valid documents, such as a passport or visa.
The two were detained by the on-duty Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), from the Tripura Sundari Express (train number – 14619) at Badarpur railway station on Thursday, said official.
The detainees told police that they had travelled to India for holiday in February and that their luggage, which had the documents, was stolen when they were in Tripura.
According to sources, the police are in contact with the Ukrainian embassy on the statement and details of the detained persons.
The police also stated that if the persons’ details are found to be fake, they will be subjected to legal action.
