Assam: Wanted car lifter injured in police firing in Cachar, one constable stabbed

Guwahati: Most wanted car lifter was injured in police firing in Assam’s Cachar district on Sunday.

 The incident occurred in Silchar’s Gopalganj in the district.

As per sources, the accused has been identified as Afzal Hussain alias Lal and he has been the most wanted ‘car lifter’ in the district.

The sources said that the accused allegedly stabbed a police constable and tried to flee from the custody, after which the police opened fire at him.

A police personnel, identified as Anuwar Hussain, sustained injuries due to the attack.

Following the incident, the car lifter as well as the injured constable were taken to the hospital.

The official said that several cases have been registered against Afzal and he has been on run for the last several months.
