    Assam water resources dept with IITG to develop technology to tackle flood & erosion

    Sonowal also stressed on adopting steps such as plantation of vetiver grass for erosion protection

    GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday asked the state’s water resources department to undertake joint initiatives with IIT, Guwahati for conducting research to develop modern and sustainable technologies to tackle flood and erosion in the state.

    While reviewing the implementation of erosion protection schemes in a meeting held at Assam Administrative Staff College here, Sonowal directed the department to speedily carry out the construction of the vulnerable embankments and to complete the ongoing erosion protection works timely.

    He also instructed the department to take early steps for the implementation of schemes declared by him during his visits to various flood-affected areas of the state.

    Sonowal also stressed on adopting steps such as plantation of vetiver grass for erosion protection.

    He also informed that the central government appreciated the state government’s step for a hydrological survey of the rivers of the state.
