GUWAHATI: In a joint operation conducted by Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Guwahati, and Assam Forest department three people has been arrested along with one live Chinese Pangolin at Jagiroad on Thursday.
As per intelligence input developed by WCCB, the arrested accused were involved in many other smuggling cases of wildlife and they were followed by WCCB for three months.
The accused has been identified as Simran Sultan, Niranjan Mondal and Dipon Malakar.
In preliminary enquiry, it is known that the accused brought the live Pangolin from Baithalangso village in Karbi Anglong at Rs 40,000 and tries to sell it at Rs 2 lakh.
The Pangolin is enlisted in schedule 1 of wildlife protection act 1972.
The scale and meat of Pangolin has a very high demand in wildlife smuggling market.
