Guwahati: Based on an intelligence input developed by Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Guwahati a Joint operation has been conducted by WCCB Guwahati and Assam forest department seized over two kilos of Pangolin scale and held two including one woman.
The joint team launched an operation on Thursday and apprehended Hitesh Khaklary of Boko in Kamrup district and Bijulina Khar Lyngdung hailing from West Kashi Hills district of Meghalaya and found 2.800 KG Pangolin scale in their possession.

The Chinese pangolin is enlisted in Schedule-I of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 and for any offence related with Pangolin may be punishable from 7 to 10 years imprisonment in Assam.
As per WCCB, now a day smuggling of pangolin scale is continuously increasing in Assam as well as all over India.
“It is the most smuggling mammal all over the India. During 2022 The WCCB, Guwahati conducted four operations in connection with pangolin scale smuggling. Today’s operation is lead by Jawaharlal Baro Assistant Director WCCB along with the DFO West Kamrup Division of Assam forest department,” said an official communiqué from WCCB.
