GUWAHATI: A marriage ceremony turned a Covid ‘super spreader’ in Assam as some 22 guests from the wedding tested of Covid 19 positive in north Lakhimpur district.
The wedding took place on May 2 at Bongalmora village. However, the incident came to light on Friday evening.
An invitee of the marriage ceremony said that a day after the wedding at least four persons fell sick and when undergone Covid19 test turned out to be positive for coronavirus.
Immediately, the health department in the district ran a contact tracing and conducted a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on some 70 people who came in contact with the four.
Out of them the 70 tests, at least 18 more people were found to be Covid 19 positive.
In no time panic gripped the area and the Lakhimpur district administration declared the area a micro containment zone.
The district authority has also appealed to the people who had attended the marriage ceremony to come forward and get tested.
Lakhimpur district recorded 130 fresh Covid cases on Friday. The district has a total over 720 cases so far.
