    Assam: Woman killed over land dispute in Karimganj

    The deceased identified as Suniti Bala Das, a senior citizen, was allegedly killed in a clash which erupted due to land dispute.

    Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed over land dispute on Thursday in Manikbond area in Karimganj, near Assam-Mizoram border.

    The deceased identified as Suniti Bala Das, a senior citizen, was allegedly killed in a clash which erupted due to land dispute It is known that, a dispute over the land between Das and Ringjharing Halam has been simmering for some years.

    On Thursday afternoon, Halam went to the disputed land to cut bamboo trees to which the victim opposed. Halam then allegedly hit Suniti Das on her head with the axe he was carrying.

    Das died on spot after which the locals informed at the Bazaricherra police station. Police reached the site and sent the body for postmortem at Karimganj Civil hospital.

    The accused, Halam was arrested for the alleged murder. An investigation is underway.
