Assam Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government’s budget proposal for gifting gold to brides named ‘Arundhati Swarna’ scheme will be tabled for the cabinet’s approval very soon.
Sarma on November 13th, 2019 took to Twitter to inform that the two major schemes, ‘Arundhati Swarna’ and ‘Assam Darshan’ announced in the current fiscal year budget now awaits cabinet’s approval. Sarma also chaired a meeting with higher officials of the concerned-Assam Tourism and Assam Finance-departments in order to finalise the policies pertaining to both the schemes.

The state announced the scheme to provide one ‘tola’ (10 grams approx) of gold to brides from communities where it is customary to provide gold at the time of the wedding. The government had allocated Rs. 300 crore for the gold scheme and had also clarified that the scheme aims at marital reforms and not encourage dowry.
On the other hand, the government has taken a step to develop 316 tourists spot in the state under the tourism scheme, Axom Darshan.
