    Assam’s Golden Tips Tea Sets World Record, Sold At Rs 70,501 Per Kg

    Guwahati: Within 24 hours of the record-breaking sale of the Manohari Gold Tea from Upper Assam at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) on Tuesday, the Golden Tips Tea from Maijan garden of Assam Company Limited set a world record on July 31st, 2019 after it was auctioned at Rs. 70,501 per kg. As per claims, this is the highest price fetched by any tea sold in any auction centre in India.

    The Mundhra Tea Company of Guwahati purchased the tea at the record price and will be shared between their client Steven Plaizier from Belgium and Namah Marketing, a Guwahati-based online tea store. The tea was sold by Parcon(India) Pvt. Ltd, the second-largest tea auctioneer in North- India.

    It may be mentioned that Assam is the world’s largest tea-growing region as the industry continued to grow for 200 years now. The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has recently also emerged as one of the busiest tea trading facilities in the world and has witnessed one of the largest volumes of CTC tea auction in the world.
