GUWAHATI: Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that the National Medical Commission has approved a new medical college in Lakhimpur with 100 MBBS seats

Taking to Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “In a major milestone for Assam, I’m glad to share that @NMC_IND has approved a new Medical College for Lakhimpur with 100 seats for MBBS. A matter of great personal pride as I see this 8th College, I dreamt of, taking shape. Now, we’ve 1100 #MBBS seats for our children.”

In August of this year, the National Medical Commission (NMC) visited Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) and discovered some issues, including a lack of faculties, a small casualty ward, and unfinished buildings.

As a result, the NMC has denied admission to LMCH’s MBBS programmes for the academic year 2021-22.
