Assam’s renowned poet Sananta Tanti passes away
Guwahati: Renowned assamese poet Sananta Tanti passed away on Wednesday after battling with prolonged illness at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the death of the Tanti.
Taking to Twitter, CM wrote, “Saddened by the news of the demise of Sananta Tanti. The contribution of the Sahitya Akademi Award winner to Assamese Poetry will be forever remembered. We pray for eternal peace of the departed soul and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
Tanty was born in an Odia family in the Kalinagar Tea Estate, Assam’s Karimganj district.
He has won various awards and honors, including the 2018 Sahitya Akademi Award for his book of poems “Kailoir Dinto Amar Hobo” (Tomorrow Will Be Ours).
