    Attack on Media houses in Tripura: Police order probe by Crime Branch

    A large number of journalists, proprietors, editors and press people gathered in front of -police headquarters here in Agartala on Thursday

    Agartala: A delegation of 10 journalists met with Tripura IGP (Law and Order) Arindam Nath on Thursday to raise security concerns faced by journalists and media houses across the state.

    A mob attacked the office of Pratibadi Kalam and Daily Desher Katha newspapers and PB24 cable channel, and ransacked the building, vandalised the vehicle of editor Anal Roy Choudhury and motorbikes of journalists were set on fire on Wednesday.

    A large number of journalists, proprietors, editors and press people gathered in front of -police headquarters here in Agartala on Thursday noon.

    A section of alleged ruling party miscreants ransacked and torched three media houses in Agartala city on the afternoon of Wednesday last.

    The delegation of the journalists raised their concern as no arrests were made even after 12 hours of the violent incident and a written complaint was lodged with the West Agartala police station on Wednesday late evening.

    Agartala press club secretary Pranab Sarkar said, “We were informed that the investigation of the attack on PB24 and Pratibadi Kalam have been given to the crime branch. Since the editor alleged that the attack took place in the presence of the officer-in-charge that is why it has been shifted to the crime branch. We have asked for a quick inquiry and they have agreed to,” Sarkar said.
