GUWAHATI: Atul Bora- The Gauhati high court has scrapped a lower court’s order in which the latter had stayed the election of Atul Bora as the president of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

A civil court here had held that the General body meeting of AGP on August 28, whereby Atul Bora was re-elected as the Party President, was in violation of the Injunction order issued on August 26.

Advocate Bijon Mahajan who argued for AGP said, “The Gauhati high court on Tuesday by scrapping the lower court’s order has held that the party election through which Atul Bora was re-elected as the party president was legal.”

The high court’s order paved the way for Bora and the newly formed committee under him would continue to work for next three years as per the party constitution.

Earlier, the lower court was of the view that despite receiving the stay order of the court through and in spite of having information of the stay order through media, the party showed complete disregard to the stay order and proceeded with the meeting violating the court’s order as well as Covid-19 Protocol.
