The Manohari Tea Estate, which created history on July 30th, 2019, by selling Manohari Gold tea at Rs 50,000 per kg, will donate the whole amount to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for flood relief.

Speaking to media persons, Rajan Lohia, owner of the tea garden said that he has decided to contribute the entire amount to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

A kilogram of Manohari Gold Tea from a garden in Upper Assam was sold for Rs 50,000 at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC). It is claimed to be as the highest price ever paid for tea in a public auction.

Manjilal Maheshwari of the Sourabh Tea Traders bid the highest price in the auction. Made only from the bud, manufactured by Manohari Tea Estate at Dibrugarh, Manohari Gold has a unique colour and taste.

Speaking to Time8, Rajan Lohia, owner of the Manohari Tea Estate said, “Making the tea was a tedious and difficult process as the gold tea is made from small buds. It takes an entire day to make only 50 grams of the tea.”

It may be recalled, a kilogram of the same tea was sold for Rs 39,001 at the GTAC in July 2018. However, the record was broken by Golden Needle variety from the Donyi Polo Tea Estate in Arunachal Pradesh. Golden Needle sold for Rs 40,000 through Pan India Auction Sale No 34 in August 2018.
