Bank Employees Demand Strict Implementation of Covid-19 Protocol

Guwahati: The bank employees’ federation (North Eastern Region) on Wednesday urged the competent authority to implement the COVID management protocols in various bank branches which are providing services during the ‘total lockdown’ period in the Kamrup metro district.

Federation general secretary Dinesh Kakati said, “Of late, there has been a spurt of Covid-19 cases among bankers in Guwahati. It has been a fact that bankers have never stepped back in discharging their duties even in times of national lock-down for months together. Braving immense risks and hardship, bankers have implemented all Govt programmes during the period, which has taken a huge toll among bankers, as is evident in the recent spurt in Covid19 cases among bankers.”

However, expressing concern at the grave situation, Kakati urged the competent authority to implement social distancing guidelines in the branch premises with the help of Police.

The general secretary also pressed the authority for supplying protective kits to bankers and regular sanitization of the premises.

“We demand the authority to issue and implement guidelines on opening and manning of branches since many banks are operating more than 10% branches and not functioning with a skeleton staff. While committing to extend essential services, we strongly urge strict implementation of Covid19 precautions in banks and minimize hardship and risks to bankers,” Kakati added.
