Kohima, February 13: State BJP discards Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) appeal to all the political parties of Nagaland through a letter which says they must choose between a ‘Trishul’ and a ‘Cross’ and should not compromise on religion for political gain.

State BJP unit alleged that the election commission would not have recognized BJP if it would have been a communal party as stated by the NBCC. BJP reportedly pointed out that earlier the council said that it will not support or go against any political party. It further stated that before the elections, some people are trying to polarize the environment in the name of religion.

Nagaland BJP unit raises the question as to why NBCC is using its platform to campaign against BJP and it has advised the council to better exercise its position to tell people to exercise their right to vote on the voting day and must refrain from advising people as to which party to vote.

State BJP has also alleged that all the leaders in Nagaland from the party are Christians and that there should not any doubt in people’s mind that their religion will ever be compromised

State unit of the saffron party has reportedly stressed on the fact that BJP is only focused in the welfare and development of the State and has vowed to refrain from issues which involve religion and culture of the State.
