Betel Nuts Worth Rs 1.15 Crore Seized In Assam’s Barpeta

Police on November 1st, 2019 seized over 350 sacks of betel nuts valued at Rs 1.15 crore at Sarukhetri in Assam’s Barpeta district. The seizure was made near Burhikhamar Bazar under Sarthebari Police Station of Barpeta district.

As per reports, the betel nuts were being loaded on a truck at Amingaon on November 1st, 2019 to be sent to Delhi. Later, the truck changed its destination and ended up at Sarukhetri.

A Guwahati-based businessman, Janaik Champak Nath informed police about the movement of the supari-loaded truck. Acting on the tip-off, police reached Sarukhetri and found the bulk of betel nuts from one businessman named Rahim Khan’s godown.

Meanwhile, police have seized the truck. However, they have not been able to nab the driver and handyman of the truck.
