Big Breaking: Assam police arrest MLA Sherman Ali for ‘Martyr’ remark

Assam police on Saturday picked up the Congress leader from MLA Hostel

Guwahati: Baghbar MLA Sherman Ali has been arrested by Assam police for his alleged ‘martyr remark’ before the TIME8 recently.

Assam police on Saturday picked up the Congress leader from MLA Hostel in Guwahati.

Presently, Sherman Ali has been brought to Pan Bazar police station for interrogation.

Sources informed that MLA Sherman Ali will be taken to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury hospital in Pan Bazar for a health checkup.

Earlier, multiple police complaints were filed against the MLA Sherman Ali by several organizations for his alleged ‘martyr remark’. In Guwahati, Bir Lachit Sena also filed a police complaint at the Dispur police station.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Bobbeeta Sharma earlier served a show-cause notice to party MLA Ali on Friday.

Furthermore, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Bora also stated that he had received WhatsApp messages from almost 254 Congress leaders/members alleging MLA Ali to be an agent of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It is noteworthy to mention that MLA Ali earlier claimed that Dayanath Sarma and eight others were not martyrs, rather they were killers. “In the year 1983 several Muslim people (Miya origin) were brutally killed by Dayanath Sarma and eight other persons,” said Ali before TIME8.

Update: Baghbar MLA Sherman Ali has been booked in connection with Geetanagar PS Case No. 407/21, Dispur PS Case No. 3598/2021 and Pan Bazar PS Case No. 510/21.
